Since March, Stoney River assisted living and memory support residents, like so many other seniors across the country, have sheltered in place, while the senior living community’s team adapted nearly every aspect of care delivery in the wake of COVID-19.
Today relief is in sight with Stoney River in Phase 1A of Minnesota’s vaccine prioritization rollout. Residents and team members expect to be offered the vaccine soon, possibly by the end of January, and many Stoney River seniors are eager to roll up their sleeves to receive the shot.

Marcia Fischer
“I am so excited to be getting the vaccine,” said Stoney River resident Marcia Fischer. “I have been through so much in my lifetime, such as World War II and Polio, and cannot believe I get to be part of something big like this now at my age.”
Fischer calls getting the vaccine “our duty to help medical progress,” adding that her mom, who was a nurse, would be proud of her for getting vaccinated.
Even though Stoney River resident Gwen Peterson admits to being a little scared of shots, she’s ready to get vaccinated too.
“I don’t like getting poked much, but it sure beats the alternative!” said Peterson, who once had to undergo a series of typhoid shots. “I’m a little bit scared, but that won’t stop me from getting the vaccine.” In fact, Peterson encourages everyone to get vaccinated to end this “COVID business” once and for all.
